WELCOME TO YEAR 3
Hello, and welcome to our Year 3 class page for 2026-2027!
We hope you all had a wonderful break and are excited to be starting a new school term!
Miss McCann, Miss Shatwell and Miss Phillips will be the adults working in Year 3.
General information:
- Homework:
- Reading - daily

- Spelling Shed - half termly online spellings games - EdShed - Educational products for spelling, phonics, literacy and maths
- Reading:
- Reading records need to be brought into school every day.
- Children will have a banded reading book and a 'reading for pleasure' book. Children should try to read for 5 minutes each day at home and record this in their reading log.
- All books are signed out to children under a library system and they will be expected to return their current book before they are allowed to take another. They can change their book with an adult any day of the week.
- P.E
- Lessons will be on Tuesdays and Fridays. On those days, children should come to school in their PE kit.
- Personal items:
- Please ensure that all items of clothing are clearly named.
- Please ensure your child has suitable footwear in school.
- Please do not allow children to bring toys and other items from home. They are easily lost or cause upsets.
- Snack and drinks:
- Snack will be served in the hall at break times. Children should bring their snack money in a labelled purse or wallet.
- Children need to bring their own water bottles into school which they can use throughout the day and refill when needed. Please do not allow other drinks such as juice, fizzy drinks etc. Juices, smoothies etc. are only for lunch.

Curriculum

Maths

Unit 1: Reviewing strategies for adding and subtracting across 10 Unit 2: Securing place value to 100 and applying to addition and subtraction Unit 3: Bridging 100: Counting on and back in 10’s, adding/subtracting multiples of 100 Unit 4: Measuring length and recording in tables Unit 5: Representing 3-digit numbers, comparing and positing on number lines |
English
In writing, your children will be using The Tin Forest by Helen Ward to retell the story, write a diary entry and write a riddle. We will look at including lots of description, adverbials and punctuating sentences correctly. In reading, we will be focusing on the books Secrets of Stonehenge and A Rock is Lively.
PE
PE days are Tuesdays and Fridays. PE on Fridays will be with our sports coach.
Science
Our Science topic this half term is Forces and Magnets during which children will learn about different forces, how different forces are produced and how magnets work.
History
In History we will learn about the Stone Age, the geography and location of Stone Age people in Britain and what their lives were like.
Music
In our music lessons we will start to learn an instrument led by Love Music Trust teachers.
Computing
In Computing, we will be learning about computing systems and networks and how computers connect.
French
In French, we will be learning how to greet others and numbers to 10.
PSHE
In PSHE, we are looking at how to keep our minds and bodies healthy. We will continue to think about our online safety as we use technology both in school and at home.
